PLPT 965 Molecular Plant Virology
Molecular Plant Virology is offered in the spring semester of odd years. In the context of the basics of molecular virology, plant virology and plant-virus interactions, the objectives are:
- To develop critical thinking skills: search, study, scrutinize, systematically analyze and critically evaluate scientific information and peer-review publications.
- To develop communication skills: communicate scientific knowledge to peers and other public.
- To develop the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- To develop the ability to understand current topics on Molecular Virology and to integrate them with other Plant Biology and Plant Pathology disciplines.
- To identify knowledge gaps representing research opportunities.
- To develop the ability to learn the basics of scientific discovery.
- To integrate scientific advances in Molecular Virology to personal research projects.
- To integrate scientific advances in other disciplines to molecular virology, plant virology and to plant-virus interactions.
PLPT 803 Basics of Scientific discovery
PLPT 803 is a new curse in the School of Plant Health and Insect Sciences approved by the CASNR curriculum committee in September of 2025. It will be offered for the first time in the fall of 2027. In PLPT 803 students will learn fundamental scientific skills such as scrutinize, systematically analyze, interpret, and critically evaluate scientific publications; identify knowledge gaps, formulate a testable hypothesis with potential to generate new knowledge; design a scientifically sound experimental plan to test the hypothesis; collect and analyze the data; display the results in simple figures or tables; draw conclusions, and communicate the findings in standard venues (seminars, conferences, publications).
